In each video game in the series, the player controls one or more characters from the Dragon Ball Z series. As in most fighting video games, players face their character against other characters controlled either by another player or by the game’s AI, depending on the game mode they are in.
The objective of each fight is to reduce the opponent’s life to zero using basic attacks and specific special attacks of each character based on the original material. For example, Son Gokū uses his Kame Hame Ha while Vegeta uses the Garlick Hō. To use these attacks the characters have a Ki bar that is spent each time a special attack is executed. Some characters also have the ability to transform or merge, such as Goku or Vegeta becoming Super Saiyan or Trunks and Goten merging into Gotenks.
